The college of science at the University of Baghdad started its third CCTV meeting within the mechanism of academic cooperation between a research team composed of professors and consultants from the University of Baghdad and the ministry of health in Iraq with their counterparts from the University of Liverpool within the “Iraqi Healthy Lung Project (IHLP)”. The aim of this meeting is to establish a survey program for the early detection of lung cancer in Iraq to predict the incidence of this disease after middle age.

The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Ahmed Salem Kazim al-Khafaji with the project manager Dr. Fadel Mohammed Lafta from the department of biology to discuss procedures for a scientific cooperation with the Iraqi medical centers and the need to predict the individuals who have a high probability of developing lung cancer during their next two years of life by subjecting them to periodic medical surveillance (at least every six months) and low dose CT-scan as well as investigation of molecular signs of tumors. Thus such a project will provide Iraqi medical institutions with an opportunity to save effort and cost in the early treatment of lung cancer patients.
