Dr. Safad Hussam al-Shammari, a professor from the department of public relations at the college of media – University of Baghdad delivered a lecture on “The dangers of digital drugs and their effects on the Iraqi society” at the ministry of culture, tourism and antiquities. Al-Shammari gave an extensive presentation on digital drugs and their use mechanisms, noting the websites that market such online products, as well as the health, psychological and social risks of taking doses and noting that some people still find that this subject is not risky and that digital drugs do not lead to addiction or they simply encourage young people towards the traditional drug addiction. The lecturer warned the competent authorities not to turn to secrecy while not to uncover their real positions or to present documented data on addiction, stressing that this vital issue requires timely and serious treatments including banning suspicious sites that trade or promote digital drugs, as done recently with pornographic sites.
