Center for Women’s Studies holds its 1st scientific conference on the reality of Iraqi woman at present and future

 

Center for Women’s Studies at University of Baghdad held its 1st annual scientific conference entitled (Iraqi woman: present manifestations and future aspirations) in the presence of the university rector Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool and a number of researchers and academics interested in this field. The aim of the conference is to highlight the role of women socially, politically and academically and to empower their role and rights as achieved in developed countries, especially after they have held leading and pioneer positions alongside men in decision-making. During his speech, the rector stated that Iraqi women were known for their patience and endured difficult circumstances so they are considered at present as active competitors in work and the basis of building our generations. Also the participants discussed various papers on women’s leadership and empowerment in society, social responsibility, the role of social networking sites in activating women’s political participation in the Iraqi landscape, self-affirmation and struggle to achieve their rights, rejection of violence along with the hostility towards women and children. At the conclusion of this event the director of the center honored the university rector and other participants with the shield of creativity for exchange of visions.
