The Treatment of the Collapse of the Gypsum soil by Injection of Ekrelite

  Gypsum soils cover vast areas of land in Iraq (more than 20% of surface area). These soils make usually normal bases of the foundations of facilities. Great engineering problems occur in these soils because of the melting of gypsum as a result of exposing these soils to moisture and (Saturation) or washing and (Leaching) with water. These problems lead to the occurrence of cracks in buildings and leaning and perhaps total collapse of the facilities.

  In this study, an attempt carried out to treat the problem of the collapse of the gypsum soils and improve the properties by injecting Alekrelit liquid. This is done by reducing the effect of water on the gypsum particles and thus reduce the compressibility and collapsing of the treated soils. Injection equipments are designed and assembled specifically for this research. Four soils for treatment has been selected with different rates of gypsum ranged between (18-72%) and classification tests were conducted on them. After that standard tests conducted including the examination of unilateral compression and examination of collapse to determine the mechanical properties of soils before and after treatment by injection. The results of the study have shown that the injection with fluid Alikrelite reduces compression of gypsum soils about (60-70%).The treated models has made a low value for Collapse Potential, where injection the models with liquid Alikrelite leads to reduce collapse by (50-60%), and this is due to the link provided by liquid Alikrelite which at the same time encapsulates the granules Gypsum and isolates them from the water.
