CHEMICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT SYMPOSIUM
SCALES IN TUBES OF COOLING TOWERS AND HEAT EXCHANGERS AND TREATMENT METHODS

  A symposium was held in the Chemical Engineering Department. The symposium was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Basma Abbas (head of the department) and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wadood Taher. The symposium started with Quran. Then the lectures were presented as follows:

    1. Asst. Prof Dr. Najwa Saber (Chemical Engineering Department)- Scale inside tubes of cooling towers and heat exchangers, causes, and treatment methods.
    2. Asst. Prof. Dr. Talib Abdul-alhadi (Chemical Engineering Department)- Controlling the deposition of oyster in Al Musaib thermal station.
    3. Eng. Wiaam Khalid (Ministry of Electricity) – Scale in reverse osmosis equipments, methods of treatments.
    4. Dr. Khalid Khazaal (Chemical Engineering Department)- Use of polymeric materials to retard the scale in cooling systems.
    5. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayad Abdul Haleem (Petroleum Engineering Department)- Options to deal with water accompanying petroleum in oil fields.

  The audience participated in discussions concerning the different lectures. The symposium concluded that great efforts must be done to develop these subjects. They also concluded that cooperation must be initiated between departments of the college and ministries related to these important subjects.
