Applications of Nanotechnology in Agricultural Science at the University of Baghdad

College of Agriculture held a scientific symposium at the University of Baghdad about the particular applications of nanotechnology in Agricultural Sciences, doomed from the dimensions of strategy in the field of agricultural researches, food and the two medicines: veterinary and human. The symposium gave a definition of the importance of (Nano science Technology) which specializes with materials and tools used to study them as well as the urgent need to educate the society about the benefits of these materials noting that there is no collateral damage of them.

The length of the Nanotechnology is between 1-100 nm (nano-Meter is a part per thousand of the part of thousands of part per thousand of the m = 9 -10m), as the use of the technology has become common in the food industry and the concerned scientific researches , and the material in large sizes can become materials with volumes of nano lead to events and functions that are not provided when the sizes are large. and can improve the tissues of food, texture and strengthen the flavour of food in the production of special food for children, athletes, and the elderly and food-free or low-fat, but with specifications like full-fat food, as well as the use of technology in packaging food materials and in the best way to maintain freshness of food and to have a longer Stockpile life in controlled atmospheres.

Nano-devices that do not exceed the length of several centimeters have been produced to measure materials such as electronic nose and sensors that provide the needed body of salts and vitamins, proteins and determine the food composition , speed of damage , the extent of contamination and powers of the human consumption.

At the end of the symposium participants called for action to encourage the study of nano and the supplying of necessary services and equipment and legislation and laws related to food because of their importance to the consumer and the product and make plans to deliver Nanonah culture through the print and audio-visual media .

As participants suggested the need for the introduction of (Nanotechnology) within the courses taught in colleges of agriculture and veterinary medicine in the near future and determine the competent faculty in teaching this course training the specialists of the faculty in courses inside the country or abroad to see the latest of this technology.
