Department of Chemical Engineering Holds a Symposium about converting heavy oil residues

 In the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Hall of the department a scientific symposium entitled (conversion of heavy oil residues) held, the symposium was of two sessions: the first was chaired by Dr.Basma. Abbas Majeed, and the second was headed by Dr.Wadood Tahir , during the symposium a series of important lectures is displayed ,they are :

    1. Flow diagrams for crude oil refining.
    2. Conversion of petroleum residues by thermal processes.
    3. Isodewaxing and isofinishing technologies.
    4. Deep cracking of petroleum residues.
    5. Hydrocrcking of petroleum residue.

 They are delivered by Dr. Abdulhalim AbdukKarim , Assist.Prof. Dr. Ammar Saleh Abbas, Assist.Prof. Dr. Hussein Kassim Hussein and lecturer Dr. Khalid Khazaa Hamadi. A group of specialist of the topics attended the symposium .These topics were addressed by the Ministry of Oil and Ministry of Industry and Minerals and the Ministry of Electricity and Ministry of Science and Technology of different facilities. Dr. Amal Abdel Ghani, Dean Assistant of scientific affairs, a number of heads of scientific departments in the college and members of the faculty at the college also attended the symposium. The researches that have been taken up represent one of the main pillars in the oil industry and everyone knows the importance of the oil industry and its impact in the world economy in general and Iraq in particular.There have been extensive discussions among the audience and the researchers tried to get to put their views on topics of the symposium, as well as discuss some of the special problems of the Iraqi oil industry to get to the solutions.The holding of such symposiums by the Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the fundamental pillars in the fruitful scientific process of exchange between the University of Baghdad represented the College of Engineering – Department of Chemical Engineering and the various ministries which the plans and directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirm. In an interview with Dr Basma Abbas Majid, head of Chemical Engineering ,she thanked Mr. Dean for his hard support to the department and encouragement to work together with government departments and research centers and showed that the faculty members in the department emphasizes the the continuing approach to maintain and develop this joint work ,the department will continue holding such effective and fruitful symposiums and we hope that these efforts are the result of one of the steps that serve our beloved Iraq.

The symposium has come to the following recommendations:

    1. The oil industry is the essential pillar for the advancement of the industry.
    2. Focusing on the participated researches that are in the development of the oil industry.
    3. Development of joint action regarding the different oil industry topics with industrial sectors, especially those related to oil.
    4. Activate and continue holding such effective seminars.
    5. Continue providing postgraduate Projects that take care of future oil industries and of applied interest.
    6. Work on the conversion and the application of the modern international ideas to the reality of Iraq to take advantage of them.
