Seminar on vitamin D at the faculty of medicine


Department of biochemistry at the faculty of medicine, University of Baghdad organized a seminar entitled “evaluation of vitamin D and its deficiency depending on the measure of hydroxy vit.D 25 among Iraqi healthy people”. The seminar included a lecture delivered by Dr. khawla Ahmed Abdul Latif on measuring the level of concentrations of vitamin (D) in serum in order to know its prevalence and deficiency among Iraqi healthy men. Samples were collected from (180) healthy men whose ages (18-28) years old and they were divided into groups where the results were compared with other neighboring countries and previous studies. The results indicated that the proportion of shortages and deficiencies in vitamin (D) were (28.9%) and (35%) respectively and the study recommended to increase the times and spaces for people to exposure to sun, attention with food containing this vitamin such as fish and cheese, as well as the use of nutritional supplements for elders and to focus on health awareness through health institutions to inform the community of the importance of this vitamin to change lifestyle and exposure to sunlight.
