Seminar on the advantages and disadvantages of privatization at the faculty of law 


Department of public law at University of Baghdad held a seminar entitled (the advantages and disadvantages of privatization) headed by Assistant Prof. Dr. Ban Salah Abdul Qadir in collaboration with the instructor Rabab Khalil Ibrahim who gave a lecture in which they shed light on the Iraqi government program aimed at privatization policy for the existence of internal and external justifications economically. Dr. Ban Abdul Qadir reached in her paper to a number of recommendations that included initialization of privatization preceded by a national plan to use the funds to invest in development projects essential for public service and emphasize on privatization in the context of consumer. For the financial dimension, the head of the department stated that it is necessary to find an organized and sophisticated financial market in Iraq that is one of the factors for the success of the privatization process and to develop the financial, fiscal, management, tax and customs to respond to the rules of the market economy and competition away from any monopoly in addition to selling a certain percentage of the shares of insurance companies, adding that in case of privatization of public utilities this would be useful to devote a certain percentage of equity to consumers of these facilities services, on one condition that the government would retain a gold share to have the right of veto against any form of monopoly or misuse that would reduce smuggling of funds in future and returning other smuggled money.
