In cooperation with Abbasid holy shrine and at the university theatre, the 5th annual cultural festival was held in the presence of benevolent collection of professors, students and members Abbasid holy shrine that included many events and activities that emphasized on the University approach towards virtue drawn by Mohammedan religion and the humanitarian career by the martyr Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his sacrifices for the sake of human justice. Imam Hussein was a model for the whole universe whose revolt shocked the thrones of sultans and tyrants in his age. President of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein in his speech during this event stressed on the intellectual product of Imam Hussein that lights the path for scholars and scientists over the millennia and his human achievements that can be benefited from by the old and the young, so we find that so many people around the world moan and cry for incident his great martyrdom in his quest to free Man from slavery and oppression. The festival included many activities such as a play about the story of the humanitarian revolt of Imam Hussein and its great results in human history, as well as a photo exhibition, rare religious documents, reciting poems in love of Imam Hussein that reflected his glory for the free world to stand up against the tyrants who Wreaked havoc. The lessons that can be taken from Imam Hussein’s march can be embodied at present by the popular sons of Iraqi army forces and our popular crowd who sacrifice their lives when fighting the terrorist gangs to liberate our sacred lands. Many news agencies, satellite TV channels, newspapers and websites covered this annual festival at University of Baghdad. Director of Baghdad University’s website unit, Teacher Basim Hamid Grimd, director of University media department, Dr. Adel al-Ghurery and director of University channel office, Dr. Abdul Basit Salman followed up the festival and documented it with video footage and photographs.

A great ceremony will be held in our university campus with a broad participation and the university invites all graduates for the academic year (2015-2016) to contribute in their gorgeous celebration where preparations for this event are well underway since University of Baghdad is the largest Iraqi and Arab university in the Middle East so this 59th session is called under the name “With our students and the sacred popular crowd, we protect and build Iraq”. A series of measures and meetings were organized in this regard months ago and president of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein directed to form a technical committee to extending the platform and stadium of the faculty of physical education to give it a new aesthetic perspective so that this celebration would be a special one including a number of activities and honoring top students in the presence of their families. This event will be attended also by representatives of various academic institutions, organizations as well as the ministry of higher education and scientific research represented by the minister Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Essa since our graduates represent over 43% of all Iraqi graduates. Sponsored by president of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein and his associates for administrative and scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Riadh Khalil and Prof. Dr. Osama Abdul Latif, this distinct event would be held this year at the faculty of physical education in Jadriya along with the blessed efforts of university website and University satellite channel team. Director of university website unit, Teacher Bassim Hamid directed his employees to prepare further activities in this regard in order to broadcast this celebration live to reflect with the most beautiful image of our Iraqi reality generations through the graduation a new batch of intellectuals to build and serve our nation. Dr. Osama Abdul Latif during a meeting with the university website team stated that he has invited senior leaders and officials in the State to attend this celebration and that fireworks and airships will be launched as a symbol of peace and humanity. It is worth mentioned that University of Baghdad excelled over (18000) global universities in Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.
